What FairSweep accesses on your device
FairSweep requests only the permission it needs to function:
- Photo library — to show your photos and videos so you can swipe to keep or delete them, and to group duplicates and similar shots. Photos are analyzed on your device and never uploaded anywhere.
You can revoke or limit this permission at any time in iOS Settings › FairSweep. If you grant only limited access, FairSweep will explain that a cleaner works best with full library access, but it never accesses more than iOS lets you allow.
On-device photo analysis
Duplicate and similar-shot detection uses Apple's Vision framework and runs entirely on your iPhone. The visual "fingerprints" used to compare photos are computed and cached locally on your device and are never transmitted to any server — not ours, not a cloud vision API. We do not see, log, or store the content of any photo or video in your library.
Deleting photos — how it actually works
FairSweep never deletes anything silently. Photos you swipe left are only staged inside the app; nothing is removed until you review the list and confirm the standard iOS system deletion prompt. Deletion is performed by iOS itself, and deleted items move to your Photos app's Recently Deleted album, where Apple keeps them for up to 30 days before removing them permanently (you can also empty Recently Deleted yourself to reclaim the space immediately). FairSweep cannot bypass or empty Recently Deleted — that is an Apple safeguard, and we think it is a good one.
Purchases
The optional Pro upgrade ($9.99, one-time — no subscription) is processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. FairSweep never sees your payment method, Apple ID, or billing details. Apple's privacy policy governs that transaction.
Analytics and crash reporting — the honest disclosure
FairSweep uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand whether the app works and how its features are used. Here is exactly what that means:
- Usage events — anonymous events such as "a session started", "a photo was kept/deleted" (a count, never the photo), "a batch delete freed X MB", "a duplicate scan finished", "the paywall was shown", "a purchase completed".
- Crash reports — if the app crashes, a report with the stack trace, your device model, and iOS version is sent so we can fix the bug.
These events never include your photos, video content, file names, albums, location data, or anything that identifies you personally. On both iOS and Android, the free version offers optional, opt-in rewarded ads through Google AdMob, which uses the device advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android). FairSweep does not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites — ad requests are non-personalized by default, so no cross-app tracking takes place. See the Advertising section below for the full disclosure. Firebase data is processed by Google on our behalf and is governed by Google's Firebase privacy documentation. We never sell your data.
Advertising (free version)
On both iOS and Android, the free version of FairSweep includes optional, opt-in rewarded ads served by Google AdMob. You are never forced to watch one: if you want extra swipes, you can choose to watch a short rewarded video ad to earn them (for example, "watch a short ad → +50 swipes"). If you never tap that option, you never see an ad. Here is exactly what that involves:
- What AdMob collects — to serve and measure these ads, Google AdMob may collect and use your device's advertising ID and related technical data (such as your device type, coarse app-usage and ad-interaction signals, and approximate/IP-derived location). This data is used to show ads, measure their performance, and limit how often you see the same ad.
- Shared with Google as our ad provider — this data is shared with Google, which acts as the advertising provider (and, together with its ad partners, may use it to serve ads). Google's list of ad technology partners is available here.
- Consent in the EEA/UK — if you are in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, you are asked for your consent before any personalized-ads data is used, via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent prompt. You can decline, and you can change your choice later.
- Pro users see no ads — the one-time Pro upgrade removes all ads entirely. Pro users are never shown ads and the ad SDK is not used to serve them.
- Same on iOS and Android — the ad model is identical on both platforms: opt-in rewarded ads only, no banner or interstitial ads, and the one-time Pro upgrade removes them entirely.
Your photos are never involved in advertising. On-device photo processing is completely unchanged by ads: your photos and videos are still analyzed only on your device and are never uploaded, collected, or shared — not with us, not with Google, not with any ad partner. Ads receive none of your photo content or photo metadata. Google's use of the advertising data described above is governed by Google's advertising policy. You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in your device's system settings.
No account required
FairSweep requires no sign-up, no email address, no phone number, and no social login. There is no FairSweep account and no FairSweep server that stores your identity or any photo you have ever swiped.
Data we do not collect
To be explicit about what FairSweep does not do:
- We do not upload your photos or videos to any server — ever.
- We do not collect or transmit photo metadata such as file names, captions, people, or places.
- We do not track your location.
- We do not access your contacts, calendar, or health data.
- We do not use device fingerprinting. The only cross-app identifier used is the device advertising ID, on both iOS and Android, and only to serve the optional opt-in rewarded ads described in the Advertising section.
- We do not sell your data.
Children
FairSweep is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children, and the optional rewarded ads are not aimed at children.
Data breach risk
Because FairSweep stores no photos and no personal data on any server, there is no FairSweep database of your photos to breach. If your device is compromised, that is governed by Apple's device security model — we recommend using a strong passcode and Face ID/Touch ID.
Retention
Your photos, swipe history, staging tray, and lifetime "GB freed" statistics live only on your device and are deleted when you delete FairSweep or clear them yourself. Anonymous analytics and crash data are retained by Firebase for a limited period (up to 14 months for analytics) and then deleted or aggregated per Google's retention policy.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be noted in the App Store release notes. Continued use of FairSweep after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
